Brand: Onkyo | Output Wattage: 220 Watts | Connectivity Technology: Bluetooth, USB, HDMI | Compatible Devices: Television, Speaker

I have tried all the device’s features and used it for various purposes. Here is the in-depth review of the Tx-Nr7100 after many weeks of usage.

Design

Onkyo TX-NR7100

The design of the Onkyo TX-NR7100 is pretty simple, with the big circular volume knobs to adjust the audio volume easily. The small circular buttons with the shiny black color remind me of the classic 90s designs.

The HDMI and connecting inputs are located at the front of the screen, which helps you set up with more ease and comfort. However, this design may affect the aesthetic of the receiver, as you cannot hide the cables.

This receiver uses a green Led monitor, suitable for rooms with vintage interiors. However, the green light is not bright and may be hard to see in dark rooms.

Located on the back are numerous inputs and outputs compatible with different connector types. The ports are divided into specific sections and labeled clearly to help users connect easier.

Onkyo has decided to remove the small key buttons that serve secondary functions. But it won’t affect much because these buttons are available on the remote, and the front of the device also looks cleaner and simplistic.

Connection

Onkyo TX-NR7100

Let’s start with the HDMI connections, the most important input on an AV receiver. The Onkyo TX-NR7100 features 6 HDMI ports, including the latest HDMI 2.3, and 2.1, with 40 Gbps bandwidth.

The high bandwidth allows you to pair multiple devices with this receiver using one single cable. The audio signals are smooth and flawless, with virtually no lag or interruption.

The receiver can process any type of signal with various audio inputs, including the Zone 2 outputs on the device. However, you have to plug in the CDs on the rear of the device, which may be a little uncomfortable.

Using the proper cable, you can pair this receiver with virtually any device that supports HDMI and other connections.

Dirac has three compatible apps:  Onkyo Connect and Dirac Live for mobile or windows. I recommend using the Windows version for more available features. With these apps, you can pair the receiver wirelessly with the other devices.

Setup

The easy and straightforward installation process is a selling point of this device. You can quickly locate the suitable connecting ports and connect the speakers to the receiver.

Wifi connection is also available on the device via Google Home App. When connected to the same network, the receiver will automatically set up all the passwords.

With a simple setup interface, you can finish all the necessary procedures and settings in a short time period. Just save the unnecessary parts for later and jump into the main settings.

Performance

Onkyo TX-NR7100

The receiver has nine channels (7.1.2 and 5.1.4) with five-way binding posts, producing a satisfying audio quality. Two subwoofers are located around the speaker connections, but they function as a single subwoofer.

A significant setback is that you cannot pair the Onkyo TX-NR7100 with an additional amplifier, so you cannot increase the channels. The receiver works great to produce clear and authentic sounds.

You can enable or disable CEC flexibly in the usage process when pairing the Onkyo TX-NR7100 with different devices. The important information like codec and incoming audio signals is displayed on the on-screen monitor.

Final Thoughts

The Onkyo TX-NR7100 is a high-quality AV receiver with advanced features and a beautiful design for every sound enthusiast. All the advertised features and functions work just fine, combined with the amazing sound quality and performance. I hope that this review can satisfy you.
